Douglas Adams is the guy that combined science fiction, that I wasn't a huge fan of, and satire, that I was a huge fan of, and gave me something almost but not entirely quite unlike something I absolutely love. He let me know I wasn't alone with my Thursday issues. I remember when I first read this extract from the first of his five part trilogy I was blown out of my mind, finally I belonged in a book I read
"This must be a Thursday" said Arthur to himself, sinking low on his beer "I never could get the hang of Thursdays"
And then he holds this high position in my heart as being the creator of Marvin, the Paranoid Android. It was like someone took the depressed part of me, called him Marvin and put him on paper. Life, don't talk to me about life.
And my almost irrational obsession with towels and the number 42. There is more than one person on Earth who could almost kill me (or read me Vogon poetry, whichever they find easier) because of my obsession with that number and\or my sudden enquiries about the location of their towels. May 25th is going to be an interesting day for me and them.
I will soon find myself copies of Dirk Gently and Salmon of Doubt. Until then, hold tight. We'll take in a quick bite at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe.
Douglas Adams, Section ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha greatly misses you. May your soul rest in peace.
